FRUITS OF JANNAH
The story behind the collection.
This collection is the first official collection by Eman Sakyna for her brand, Sakyna. The title ‘Fruits of Jannah’ means the Fruits of Heaven. The idea occurred to Eman while praying and since then, the idea had been brought to life. Each fruit is mentioned at least once in the Holy Quran as evidence of God’s ability to produce various fruits from the same Earth and water. This collection is the physical embodiment of God’s natural creations to heal mankind.
Through each verse in the Quran, God’s intentions and purpose for each fruit to grow on Earth become clear. Similarly, every abaya designed for Sakyna is made with meticulous intention to detail. The ideology behind Sakyna is to do everything in life with specific intentions, especially dressing. Your fashion choices reflect on you and your values. Value intention and it will show in your life.
ANAR.
Pomegranates (Anar) are described in the Qur’an as a sign of God’s creations, and as a bounty of Heaven. (6:99-141) They are signs of God’s creative power and they serve as a constant reminder of God’s provision and artistry in this world. They are mentioned 3 different times in the Holy Qur’an.
فِيهِمَا فَـٰكِهَةٌۭ وَنَخْلٌۭ وَرُمَّانٌۭ
“In both will be fruit, palm trees, and pomegranates.”
— Surah Ar-Rahman (55:68)
FIG.
In Surah at-Tin (95:1), God swears by the Fig and the Olive. This signifies their importance, blessings, and nutritional values. It is recognized as a Superfood, which symbolizes divine generosity. The figs and olives represent the places where many Prophets of Islam revealed their revelations, such as Jerusalem and Mount Sinai.
وَٱلتِّينِ وَٱلزَّيْتُونِ
“By the fig and the olive ˹of Jerusalem˺,”
— Surah at-Tin (95:1)
ZAYTOUN.
The Olive (Zaytoun) is mentioned six times in the Qur’an. It is specifically mentioned in Surah Nur when God states that it is a blessed tree. Olives are a blessing created for mankind and symbolize divine light. (80:29) God also swears by the olive in Surah-Tin.
يُنۢبِتُ لَكُم بِهِ ٱلزَّرْعَ وَٱلزَّيْتُونَ وَٱلنَّخِيلَ وَٱلْأَعْنَـٰبَ وَمِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةًۭ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
“With it He produces for you ˹various˺ crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and every type of fruit. Surely in this is a sign for those who reflect.”
— Surah An-Nahl (16:11)
GRAPE.
Grapes are mentioned 11 times in the Holy Qur’an. They are described in Surah an-Naba’ (78:32) as a reward awaiting the righteous in Paradise. They are described as sustenance and provision from God. They are mentioned in other Surahs as a fruit in Heaven’s gardens. (36:34)
وَجَعَلۡنَا فِيۡهَا جَنّٰتٍ مِّنۡ نَّخِيۡلٍ وَّاَعۡنَابٍ وَّفَجَّرۡنَا فِيۡهَا مِنَ الۡعُيُوۡنِۙ
“And We placed therein gardens of palm trees and grapevines and caused to burst forth therefrom some springs.”
— Surah Yaseen (36:34)
HONEY.
Honey in the Qur’an is mentioned as a miraculous, nutritious and pure substance, created by bees though divine inspiration. This is also one of the blessed foods that will exist in Paradise. Refined honey is mentioned to be a joy of paradise. In this world, it is a source of healing for mankind’s physical body.
ثُمَّ كُلِى مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ فَٱسْلُكِى سُبُلَ رَبِّكِ ذُلُلًۭا ۚ يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بُطُونِهَا شَرَابٌۭ مُّخْتَلِفٌ أَلْوَٰنُهُۥ فِيهِ شِفَآءٌۭ لِّلنَّاسِ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةًۭ لِّقَوْمٍۢ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
“…and feed from ˹the flower of˺ any fruit ˹you please˺ and follow the ways your Lord has made easy for you.” From their bellies comes forth liquid of varying colours, in which there is healing for people. Surely in this is a sign for those who reflect.“
— Surah An-Nahl (16:68)
KHUJOOR.
Dates (Khujoor) symbolize blessings and abundance. They represent spiritual gratitude and are a sunnah (recommended) food for their high nutritional values. They are blessed and used to break your fasts during the Holy month of Ramadan. There is lots of cultural significance surrounding dates and palm trees.
وَهُزِّىٓ إِلَيْكِ بِجِذْعِ ٱلنَّخْلَةِ تُسَـٰقِطْ عَلَيْكِ رُطَبًۭا جَنِيًّۭا
“And shake the trunk of this palm tree towards you, it will drop fresh, ripe dates upon you.”
— Surah Maryam (19:25)
